Convolution

Convolution :

A mathematically equivalent operation that describes the action of a linear (mechanical and/or electronic) system on a signal, such as that of a filter on a seismic signal. The convolution of two functions x(t) and h(t) is often written as x(t) * h(t), and is defined mathematically as y(t) = x(t) * h(t) = ∫ x(T) h(t- T) dT. In signal processing, y(t) represents an output of a stationary linear system in terms of the input x(t) and impulse response h(t) of the system. See: Linear System And Impulse Response
