Coordinate System 1

Coordinate System 1 : (Math) A set of reference lines used to locate points in a given two- or three-dimensional space by means of numerical quantities. The quantities are the coordinates of the point. Note: The most common system is the cartesian, which is constructed with two (x, y) or three (x, y, z) mutually perpendicular axes having a common origin. Plane coordinates with two axes are used for the construction of graphs and curves; the three-axis system is used to locate points in three-dimensional space. Other systems, such as the polar, spherical, and cylindrical coordinate systems, are used for special purposes
