Coulomb Friction
Coulomb Friction : In a constitutive law governed by Coulomb friction, a slip occurs when shear stress exceeds strength defined by a coefficient of friction (a constant) times the normal stress. In contrast, the rate-and-state dependent law involves the coefficient of friction, which is not a constant but depends on the sliding speed (rate) and contacts (state) on the fault plane.
