Coupling 03 :
(n.) Geophysics. The state of being attached to another entity: A well-planted geophone has a coupling to the Earth's surface or to a boreholewall that allows it to record ground motion during acquisition of seismic data. See: geophone, plant, transition zone, tube wave. (2) (n.) Geophysics. An electrical or mechanical device that joins parts of systems and can affect the interaction of, or energy transfer between, parts of systems. Electrical couplings promote the passage of certain signals but prevent the passage of others, such as an alternating current coupling that excludes direct current. See: signal
