Death Rate 1 : Medicine. (Insur; Demog) The number of deaths with respect to a known constant, such as number of deaths per unit of population. Note: Death rates are usually of three types: Population: The number of deaths per 100,000 persons. Registration (vehicle): The number of deaths from traffic accidents per 20,000 motor vehicles registered in the area for which the rate is computed. Mileage (vehicle): The number of deaths from motor vehicle accidents per 100,000 miles of motor vehicle travel in the area for which the rate is computed
