Dem-des Demurrage and Dispatch Demurrage : (1) Liquidated damages which are payable under a charter party. These are paid at a specified daily rate for the days it takes to complete the loading or discharging of cargo after the lay days have expired. These are known as demurrage days. (2) Unliquidated damages to which a ship-owner is entitled if no lay days are specified and the ship is detained for loading or unloading beyond a reasonable time
