Department of Homeland Security, Organization/Structure (2003) : "The Department will be structured into four Directorates, each responsible for implementing the applicable components of the six critical missions. They are: (1) Border and Transportation Security, (2) Information Analysis and Critical Infrastructure Protection, (3) Emergency Response and Preparedness, and (4) Science and Technology. "The United States Coast Guard and Secret Service will retain their independence and will play key roles in supporting all of the critical missions.
