Design Flood Elevation (Dfe) 2 : Elevation of the design flood, or the flood protection elevation required by a community, including wave effects, relative to the National Geodetic Vertical Datum, North American Vertical Datum, or other datum. The DFE is the locally adopted regulatory flood elevation. If a community regulates to minimum National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) requirements, the DFE is identical to the Base Flood Elevation (BFE).
