Design Process 1 : Process for arriving at a final design for a transport project and normally divided into three distinct phases: (1) Functional Design: Preparation of the conceptual design with enough detail to ensure that the design will function as intended. (2) Preliminary Design: Finalisation of design in terms of calculations, specifications and estimates such that all aspects of the design are determined. (3) Documentation: Preparation of plans and documents describing the design sufficiently for it to be constructed
