Detector, Fire, Heat, Line Type

Detector, Fire, Heat, Line Type : A form of fire detector which responds to an increase in temperature detected anywhere along its length. (BS 4422(4)) The sensitive element is extended linearly (e. g. a cable) to cover a large area and will detect a fire occurring in any short interval of its length. There are three types: a) a line integrating detector - any part will respond to changes in temperature and the thermal response from all sections is in some way additive; b) a line thermostatic detector - any part will respond to changes in temperature but the thermal responses from the sections are non-additive but nevertheless are sensed from a common connecting point; c) a line type detector with discrete units- consisting of a number of separate units coupled together in such a way that that the thermal response is in some way additive. A general term for the detectors described in a) and c) is integrating detectors and for the detectors in a) and b) continuous detectors
