Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT)

Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) : A well-known chlorine-containing pesticide, used extensively in agriculture between the 1940s and 1960s. Growing concern about adverse environmental effects led to severe restrictions and bans. Banned in the US since 1972 and in Europe since 1979 (79/117/EEC), it is still manufactured in the US for export, and is produced and used in developing countries.
