DirectX : (ICT) A Microsoft Windows graphics technology. Direct X is a software layer within the operating system, also called an Application Programming Interface or API. Direct X gives graphics and sound cards direct access to the computers's hardware and so by-passes much of the overhead that Windows introduces. In practical terms Direct X allows advanced games to run as fast as possible. There have been many generations of Direct X.
