Dirty Bomb 5 : A dirty bomb consists of conventional explosive(s) attached to some kind of radioactive material, which spreads contamination by radioactive elements when the device goes off. Though a dirty bomb is sometimes described as a poor man's nuclear weapon, it does not produce a nuclear explosion. A dirty bomb is considered an ideal terrorist weapon since it can wreak havoc beyond its physical consequences. According to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) fact sheet on dirty bombs, the panic that could follow an attack might be more harmful than the explosion itself, and the radiative materials that are spread. Alternative reports place an emphasis on fear with minimal panic. Important infrastructure may be unusable for an extended time pending decontamination.
