There are many different definitions for 'disaster' but to make it clear in the term that we want to relate to, we can define it as "an event that has occurred unexpectedly with destructive consequences". Disasters can be put into three main categories: (1) Natural Disasters: (a) Flooding, (b) Hurricanes, (c) Blizzards, (d) Storms, (e) Land slides, etc; (2) Human Disasters: (a) Theft and criminal damage, (b) Fire, (c) Death/poor health/general sickness, (d) Contamination, (e) War/conflict/terrorism, (f) Workplace violence, etc; (3) Technical Disasters: (a) Power cuts, (b) Break down of computer networks, (c) Gas leaks, (d) Communication failure, (e) Cooling/heating/ventilation system failure, etc. (From: BizHelp24/ http://www.bizhelp24.com/small_business/disaster_recovery.shtml on 28 June 2004)
