Electron Volt 1

Electron Volt 1 : (Chem; Phys; Abb: ev) A unit of electrical energy equal to the kinetic energy of an electron accelerated by a potential difference of one volt. The unit is commonly used in describing atomic and molecular energies. An electron volt equals 1. 602 x 10-19 joule = 1. 602 x 10-12 erg. Note: Energies in ev refer to individual molecules. To compute energies for bulk materials it is necessary to multiply by the number of molecules involved, using thenumber of moles and Avogadro's number
