Boilover 1
Boilover 1 : (Fire Pr) (1) The spilling over of a burning flammable liquid from a container or tank. Water applied to extinguish the fire may overfill the tank and allow the burning liquid to float and spill over the edge. (2) The more or less violent eruption of crude oil or other liquid from a burning storage tank. The light fractions of the crude oil burn off, producing a heat wave in the residue, which on reaching a water stratum may vaporize it and expel some of the contents of the tank in the form of froth.
