Fire Alarm System, Automatic 1 : A fire alarm system comprising components for automatically detecting a fire, initiating an alarm of fire and initiating other action as arranged; the system may also include manual call points. The circuit connecting a number of detectors and/or manual call points in series to the control and indicating equipment may be closed or open. A closed circuit means a steady current flows continuously. Dependent on the design of the system an alarm will be produced by increase, decrease, or interruption of the current by the closing or opening of the contacts of any detector or manual call point. It is fail safe. An open circuit is one in which the alarm of fire is transmitted by the closing of the contacts of any detector or manual call point. A fault signal is a distinctive signal to indicate a failure of electricity supply, or an electrical fault on the circuit or system of circuits
