Fire Area 01 : (1) (Build) (1) A portion of a building separated from the remainder by fire resistant construction (floors, ceiling, walls, etc) in which all communicating openings are protected by doors, windows, and other assemblies having appropriate fire resistance ratings. Also called: Fire Zone. See: Smoke Zone. Cf: Area of Refuge. (2) = (Brit) Fire Cut. (2) (Fire Pr) The stories of a building adjacent to fire floors; usually the story immediately below the fire floor and the two stories directly above it
