Fire Cause 1 : (1) (Fire Pr) The agency or circumstance which starts a fire or allows one to start. Note: Although fire causes for statistical purposes are often lumped into broad categories such as 'electrical', 'clothing', and the like, the more exact cause is of the order of 'sparking of frayed wiring', 'clothing too close to a heater', and so on. (2) (For Serv) The source of fire ignition. For statistical purposes the US Fire Service uses eightbroad categories of fire causes: campfire, debris burning, incen?diary, lightning, lumbering, rail-road, smoker, and miscellaneous
