Fire Department, The New York City FDNY 12 : Ideology and Core Competencies: Statistics: (1) Fire calls for 2006. For the period January 1, 2006, to December 31, 2006 the FDNY dealt with the following number of calls: (a) Structural fires: 27,817; (b) Non-structural fires: 20,702; (c) Non-fire emergencies: 198,202; (d) Medical emergencies: 209,397. There were 2,971 serious fires in 2006, defined as those declared 'all hands' or above in severity. Response times to incidents were roughly between two and a half, to six minutes from the time of call, depending on total activity and borough, with the quickest responses being in the Bronx, Manhattan and Brooklyn, and the slowest in Queens and Staten Island
