Fire Door 1 : (Build) A fire-resistive door, including its frame and hardware, which under standard test conditions meets the fire protective requirements for the location in which it is to be used. usually a self-tripping door that closes automatically when a fire is detected or an alarm is actuated. See: Fire Resistance Classes. Note: Fire doors are classified according to their fire endurance ratings. Class A: A door having a 3-hour fire endurance rating for use as a closure in Class A openings. Class B: One having a 1-1/2- or 1-hour rating used as a closure in Class B openings. Class C: One having a 3/4-hour rating, used as a closure in Class C openings. Class D: One having a 1-1/2-hour rating and suitable for use in exterior walls as a closure in Class D openings. Class. : A door having a 3/4-hour rating and suitable for use in exterior walls as a closure in Class E openings. Doors are also classified according to construction and material, as tin clad, plywood core with galvanized steel terne plate covering; composite, core with metal or impregnated wood edges, faced with steel, wood, or plastic; hollow, flush or panelled steel; metal clad, metal covered wood; plate steel, steel plates on steel frame; and sheet metal, formed or corrugated steel.
