Fire Fighting 2

Fire Fighting 2 : (Fire Pr) The activity and procedures necessary to diminish or halt combustion and flame from fuels. Fires are extinguished by cooling the burning material, removing or interrupting the fuel supply, blocking the air supply, halting the combustion process by chemical quenching materials, or by a combination of such measures. NOTE; Cooling is usually accomplished by water. Cutting off or interrupting the fuel supply is sometimes possible, esp when flammable gas or liquid supply lines can be shut, or a firebreak constructed ahead of a wildfire. The air supply can be blocked by blanketing the fire with foam or CO2. Flaming can be halted by chemi- cal quenching produced when vaporizing liquids and dry chemicals decompose and react in fires
