Fire Line 1 : (1) (Fire Pr; For Serv) A front or zone in which firefighters operate to extinguish a fire in a building, forest, or grassland. (2) (Fire Pr) A fire hose, particularly when in use for firefighting. (3) (Fire Pr) A boundary erected by the fire department or police around a fireground to bar all but emergency personnel and vehicles. (4) (For Serv) a. A part or segment of a fire control line. b. A trail cleared of combustible material by scraping or digging to the soil in wildland firefighting operations. Also called: Fire Trail. See: Firebreak
