Fire Safety in Building Facilities 3 : Common Fire Hazards: Some of the common fire hazards include: (1) Electrical systems that are overloaded, resulting in hot wiring or connections, or failed components; (2) Combustible storage areas with insufficient protection; (3) Combustibles near equipment that generates heat, flame, or sparks; (4) Candles; (5) Smoking (Cigarettes, cigars, pipes, lighters, etc). ; (6) Equipment that generates heat and utilizes combustible materials; (7) Flammable liquids; (8) Fireplace chimneys not properly or regularly cleaned; (9) Cooking appliances - stoves, ovens; (10) Heating appliances - wood burning stoves, furnaces, boilers, portable heaters; (11) Electrical wiring in poor condition; (12) Batteries; (13) Personal ignition sources - matches, lighters; (14) Electronic and electrical equipment; (15) Exterior cooking equipment - BBQ; and (16) Campfires
