Inerting or Purging

Inerting or Purging :

Operation of passing a quantity of protective gas through the pressurised enclosure and ducts, so that when (a) the protective gas is air, any explosive atmosphere in the pressurised enclosure is reduced to a safe concentration; (b) or when the protective gas is inert the concentration of oxygen in the pressurised enclosure is reduced to a safe level (EN 50016:1995). NOTE: This term is related to the type of protection by Pressurisation. Two types of inerting exist: Total inerting, and Partial inerting. Methods of Partial inerting: Pressure change techniques (vacuum-inerting, overpressure-inerting, and pressure change and inert gas consumption), Displacement inerting, and Purge inerting
