Inferential Statistics :

(Statist) A set of techniques for inferring something about information obtained from a representative sample. Methods of drawing conclusions from sample data about a larger body of data. Note: Inferential statistics fall into two main categories: those that give the margin of error in predicting or estimating some population measure, such as a mean, and those that permit the testing of hypotheses about populations
