Informal sector 1
Informal sector 1 : A part of the economy consisting of small-scale, self-employed activities, with or without hired workers, typically operating with a low level of organization and technology. Other characteristics are: (a) the activities are often conducted without formal approval from the authorities, and therefore they may operate outside some or all provisions of the law; (b) Some workers are specifically excluded from labour protection laws, because of the restricted definition in those laws of worker or employer; (c) There is little or no access to organized markets or credit institutions, to formal education or training, or to many public services and benefits; (d) Some of the activities are not carried out in a fixed location or are carried out in places that are not visible to the authorities. (The sector is also referred to as the non-formal sector)
