Inhomogenous Plane Waves
Inhomogenous Plane Waves : Plane waves with amplitudes varying in a direction different from the direction of propagation. The propagation velocity is lower than that for regular plane waves. For example, Rayleigh waves are composed of inhomogeneous P and SV waves propagating horizontally with amplitudes decaying with depth. They are also called "evanescent waves".
