Injured Worker 3 : Management of Rehabilitation. There are three types of compensation - common law damages; workers' compensation; social security. During the first 6 months after the injury it is important for the employer to keep in contact with their insurer and rehabilitation provider in order to ensure that redeployment and retraining options are implemented as effectively as possible. Before termination is entertained as an option, six months after the injury the following considerations should be made: (a) whether rehabilitation has been successful; (b) whether redeployment has been investigated and is/is not available; (c) whether retraining or further training has been investigated and properly considered; whether the company is able to continue indefinitely to provide alternative duties.
