Pertaining to an interval of geologic time (tens or hundreds of thousands of years) marked by mild climate between the glacial stages of an ice age. In the Quaternary Ice Age there have been three interglacial stages, and we may now be in the fourth. In low latitudes beyond the reach of the glacierizations, the corre sponding intervals are the interpluvial stages
