Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome 4
Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome 4 : A highly infectious disease of pandemic proportions, caused by the HIV virus. A person who has the virus is a carrier and can infect others. Spread is by sexual intercourse, by contaminated needles and syringes, transfusions of infected blood, by an infected mother to her unborn child. Spread is unlikely through daily social contact, such as shaking hands. Note: Non-infective immune deficiency can also be acquired from radiation.
