Matched Pairs

Matched Pairs : Participants are matched up in pairs on certain characteristics. One of each pair receives the intervention (intervention group) whilst the other does not (non-intervention group). In experimental evaluation designs it can be useful to match individuals (e.g. young drivers) or institutions (e.g. driving schools) on a number of features which might be expected to affect the outcome, before offering the intervention to one of each pair only. This approach is useful when you are not able to randomise participants to intervention or non-intervention group. It can help you to measure and control for confounding factors such as age, gender, location, experience and other variables, relevant to your study
