Redundancy 19 : The permanent displacement of some part of the workforce of an rganization as a result of plant closure or organizational or technological changes. The term "voluntary redundancy" refers to the method by which the individuals to be dismissed are selected. A predetermined reduction in the number of workers may be obtained by calling for volunteers who may choose redundancy in order to obtain a lump-sum payment, the amount of which may be determined by statutory provisions, the employer, or collective or individual bargaining.
