Reliability 01 : (1) (Educ) The characteristic of a test that it is a true measure of that which is being tested. (2) (Techn) The probability that a component, equipment, or a system will perform its purpose adequately for a given period of time or under given operating conditions. Note: For a system with independent components, the overall reliability is based on the product of the individual reliabilities; e. g. , three independent components with a 90% reliability each will have an overall reliability of 0. 9 x 0. 9 x 0. 9, or 72. 9%. Similarly, 100 components with a 99% reliability each will have an overall reliability of only 36. 5%
