Remedial Design and Remedial Action (RD/RA) :

Remedial Design is defined in the NCP as "the technical analysis and procedures which follow the selection of (a) remedy for a site and result in a detailed set of plans and specifications for implementation of the remedial action. See also Remedial Investigation and Feasibility Study. "Remedial Action" is defined in the NCP in part as "those actions consistent with (a) permanent remedy taken instead of, or in addition to, (a) removal action(s) in the event of a release or threatened release of a hazardous substance into the envrionment, to prevent or minimize the release of hazardous substances so that they do not migrate or cause substantial danger to present or future public health or welfare, or the environment." CERCLA defines a removal action in part as "the cleanup or removal of hazardous substances from the environment, which may be taken in the event of the threat of release of hazardous substances into the environment”
