Remotely Sensed Data : Data collected by a sensor that is not in direct contact with the area being mapped. Active remote sensing involves transmitting a beam that is detected after reflection; passive remote sensing simply measure light from the sun being reflected by objects being sensed. Similar instruments for remote sensing can operate from aircraft of satellites. (Marine GIS)
