Respiratory Protective Equipment 3 :

Equipment designed to provide protection to the wearer from inhalation in hazardous atmospheres such as dusts, fogs, fumes, mists, gases, smokes, sprays, or vapours. All respirator usage requires annual fit testing and training prior to use. In some cases, respirators provide oxygen in oxygen-deficient atmospheres. Respiratory protective equipment can be divided according to the following schema: Respirators. It takes in air from the workspace and filters or cleans it removing noxious gases before it is inhaled. They are not recommended for use under asphyxiating atmospheres. They can be classified in: o Filtering respirators. o Powered respirators. Air-supplied equipment. Equipment that is provided with a source of clean air. Different types of air-supplied equipment are: (1) Compressed-air supplied equipment. (2) Fresh air hose equipment. o Breathing apparatus
