Reverse Commuting 1 : (1) Process of travelling in a direction opposite to the direction of peak traffic. An example is travelling from a residence in the city to a place of employment in the suburbs. Referred to as 'reverse' because it is the opposite of the usual pattern of travel from a suburban residence to a job in the city.
