Standpipe 01
Standpipe 01 : (1) (Build; Fire Pr) A vertical water pipe used to supply fire-hose outlets in tall buildings. Note: In contrast, a riser is a vertical water pipe that supplies a sprinkler system. Standpipes are either wet or dry, depending on whether they are continuously charged with water or empty when not in use. (2) (Fire Pr) A short, permanent pipe with one or more hose outlets, or a pipe that is attached to a hydrant, esp to one that is recessed, to elevate the outlet above ground level. (3) (Hydraul) An above-ground reservoir used to maintain uniform pressure in a water supply system
