Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) 3 : SNS is a medical prophylaxis for a biological incident. It is a function of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). CDC manages strategically located "push packages" ready for immediate deployment to ensure availability of life-saving pharmaceuticals, antidotes and other medical supplies and equipment necessary to counter the effects of nerve agents, biological pathogens and chemical agents. Additional lots of pharmaceuticals and caches of medical materiel are maintained by manufacturers under contract. A CDC team of technical advisors, known as a Technical Advisory Response Unit (TARU), deploys at the same time as the first shipment.
