Stress Drop


Stress Drop : The difference between the stress on a fault before and after an earthquake. A parameter in many earthquake source models that has a bearing on the level of high-frequency shaking radiated by the earthquake. Commonly stated in units termed bars or megapascals (1 megapascal (MPa) = 106 N/m2 = 10 bars).
