Structures, Systems and Components (SSCs)
Structures, Systems and Components (SSCs) : A general term encompassing all of the elements (items) of a facility or activity which contribute to protection and safety, except human factors. Structures are the passive elements: buildings, vessels, shielding, etc. A system comprises several components, assembled in such a way as to perform a specific (active) function. A component is a discrete element of a system. Examples are wires, transistors, integrated circuits, motors, relays, solenoids, pipes, fittings, pumps, tanks and valves. See also: core components
