Certification 08 : A voluntary, market-based instrument aimed at promoting sustainable forest management that takes into account environmental, economic, and social issues. It involves an independent assessment of forest management according to internationally or nationally accepted standards, and the tracking and monitoring of the supply of forest products to the market place. In Canada, three certification standards are in use: Canadian Standards Association (CSA), Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), and Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI)
