Chemical Combination, Laws of : Three Laws of Chemical Combination: (1) Law of constant proportions Every pure substance always contains the same elements combined in the same proportions by weight. (2) Law of multiple proportions When two elements combine to form more than one compound, the amounts of one of them which combine with a fixed amount of the other exhibit a simple multiple relation. (3) Law of combining weights The proportions in which two elements separately combine with the same weight of a third element are also the proportions in which the first two elements combine together
