Safety of chemical reactions is a key subject for the chemical industry. In a chemical reaction some hazardous materials are processed (mixed, stirred, heated, cooled, ...) to produce new materials. Usually chemical reactions evolve significant amounts of heat (exothermic processes), being able to enter in irreversible runaway scenarios. Several types of chemical reactors (the process unit in which the reaction takes place) are used in the chemical industry, such as batch (BR) and semibatch (SBR) stirred tanks for discontinuous processes, plug flow (PFR) tubular reactors, continuous stirred tank reactors (CSTR), and fixed and fluidised bed reactors for continuous processes among other things
