Child 5 : Under the Child Protection Act 1999, a child is an individual who is under 18 years of age. The term child is used throughout the practice manual to signify both a child and a young person. Under the Juvenile Justice Act 1992, a child is: a person who has not turned 17 years; or after a day fixed under section 6146 - a person who has not turned 18 years
