Classified National Security Information :

Also referred to as "classified information". Any data, file, paper, record, or computer screen containing information associated with the national defense or foreign relations of the United States and bearing the markings: confidential, secret, or top secret. This information has been determined pursuant to Executive Order 12958 or any predecessor order to require protection against unauthorized disclosure and is marked (confidential, secret, or top secret) to indicate its classified status. It is also referred to as classified information. (1) Confidential: Information, the unauthorized disclosure of which reasonably could be expected to cause damage to the national security that the original classification authority is able to identify or describe. (2) Secret: Information of which the unauthorized disclosure could reasonably be expected to cause serious damage to the national security that the original classification authority is able to identify or describe. (3) Top secret: Information of which the unauthorized disclosure could reasonably be expected to cause exceptionally grave damage to the national security that the original classification authority is able to identify or describe.
