Clinker 3


Clinker 3 : Coal ash. May be somewhat variable in its nature, since coal may contain impurities such as shale, pyrites, etc. In the firebed some of the ash may fuse or melt, whilst the remainder may be infusible. The metled ash may bind together pieces of infusible ash, the whole forming what is termed a clinker which is described as being `dry' if the infusible material predominates and `wet' if the fusible material predominates. Ash is, in theory, the oxidised inorganic constituents of a fuel. In practice some carbonaceous material (from the fuel) may be entrapped within a clinker formation
