Cloud 1 : (Meteor) (1) A visible concentration of floating particles. (2) Fine water droplets or ice crystals suspended in the air. Particle sizes vary, but must be small enough (typically 0. 1 mm) so that winds and air currents can hold them aloft. If critical size is exceeded, precipitation results. Ground level clouds are called fog. Clouds are named according to their shapes. The three basic cloud forms are cirrus (streaked clouds), stratus (layered clouds), and cumulus (heaped clouds). The ten main characteristic cloud genera are shown in the table
