Crib 1 : (1) (Comb; Testing) A square or rectangular, self-supporting, box-like construction, generally of loosely-laid wood boards or timbers in which two or more boards are laid parallel and succeeding layers are laid on top, alternately at right angles until the desired height or fuel load is reached. Used to simulate a given quantity of fuel in fire tests. Note: In British practice the crib timbers are fixed together. (2) (Techn) a supply room from which tools, spare parts, and materials are issued
